After a verification process run by PromPerú regarding the compliance with the BioTrade Principles and Criteria, it has been confirmed that the Takiwasi Center, through its production unit Takiwasi Laboratory, meets the standards of BioTrade and has received the authorization to use the "Bio Comercio Perú" logo (BioTrade Peru).
Takiwasi Lab produces and markets natural products based on the ancestral knowledge of traditional Amazonian medicine, in alliance with the native communities gathered in the Kichwa Huallaga Dorado Federation (FEKIHD) and the Medicinal Plants Producers Association AMPIK SACHA. The Laboratory staff provides technical advice and training to native communities under the principles and criteria of BioTrade, while promoting the value chain of Amazonian medicinal plants.
PromPerú, the National Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism, considers as part of its mission to contribute to the sustainable and decentralized development of the country. It has a Sustainable Trade Department which, among its objectives, wants to promote the development of the value chain of the native Biodiversity as Sustainable Business Models. The verification process consisted of a visit to the Chirik Sacha native community, located in the district of San José de Sisa, and to the laboratory located in the city of Tarapoto, to demonstrate the level of incorporation of the BioTrade principles.
In this way, PromPerú has confirmed that Takiwasi works in compliance with the BioTrade model, developing procedures for the conservation and endurable use of biodiversity through a sustainable supply chain, which is why the use of the "Bio Comercio Perú" logo is authorized. This may be used in official documents of the company, according to the PromPerú report.
