Ayahuasca, rituality and interpretation - April 2017

At the Takiwasi Center ayahuasca is used always as part of a process and is ingested in a ritual setting. What is defended is not ayahuasca, but a certain ritualized use of this plant. Rituals are part of the life of the human being since he began to look for a way to give meaning to life and death, and serve to formalize and mark stages in the growth of the human being. The symbolic function of ritual in the framework of the ayahuasca session help to give it a meaning on different levels: at the physical level, that of the ordinary life, and at the spiritual level. A conversation with Fabienne Bâcle, psychotherapist at Takiwasi Center.

Coca and Ayahuasca, same destiny? - October 2016

Speaker: Dr. Jacques Mabit. Founder and Executive President of the Takiwasi Center. Lecture delivered at the II World Ayahuasca Conference, ICEERS Foundation, Río Branco, Brazil, 21-10-2016. While Peru built the magnificent Inca civilization aided by the wisdom provided by balanced use of the coca leaf, then became the largest producer of toxic derivatives of this desecrated plant. Today the coca leaf permits the treatment of cocaine addiction, as is shown by the experience of the Takiwasi Center. On the other hand, the healing use of ayahuasca had been discovered over a few decades ago, and resulted in an explosion of usage worldwide. Will the accelerated desecration of this medicine reach the same extremes of misuse as that of Coca? What can we learn from the tragic path followed by Coca abuse in relation to the use of Ayahuasca? What did the use of Coca in the West respond to, and what does the use of Ayahuasca today respond to?

Plant Bath - Energy Cleansing - October 2016

The plant bath is a therapy traditionally used in Amazonian medicine for the energetic cleansing of the body and mind. In this video Don José show the preparation of a plant bath in the Takiwasi Center. The plant bath is carried out in a ritualized way and is accompanied by a sopladas or icarada, a method that consists in " charging energetically " a vehicle (tobacco, flower water, camphor, perfume, etc.) singing on it, and then applying it on the patients by blowing on their energetic points (head, hands, back, chest), to reassure or protect. It is an excellent way to release stress in general, relax, eliminate tension, dispel anxiety and anguish. A natural way to eliminate bad energies and protect yourself with the power of the Amazon rainforest. The plants used are aromatic and relaxing such as mucura, shapiyoja, toe, verbena, ruda, albahaca, flowers, etc. The baths are performed next to the Shilcayo River. Another option is the so-called flowering bath that is traditionally reserved for special occasions such as new year celebration, marriage, anniversaries.

Interview with the indigenous leader Santiago Manuin - July 2016

Interview conducted in July 2016 by Jacques Mabit, founding president of the Takiwasi Center, addressing issues such as the role of plants in personal and spiritual life and the interest of Westerners towards traditional Amazonian medicine. Santiago Manuin Valera is a recognized indigenous leader of the jungle of Peru. Belonging to the Awajún ethnic group, he dedicates his life to the protection of the Amazon and to the promotion of the development of the indigenous communities that inhabit it. He has led the Awajún people to face the expansion of the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement in the indigenous territory. As a result of this position, it has been possible to eradicate the coca and poppy crops in the area and thus avoid the terrible experiences that the Ashaninka people had to live with the Shining Path.
